GFATM Course

INC has been identified as Principal Recipient (PR) by Global Fund for AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM) (Round – 7) for training nurses in HIV / AIDS and College of Nursing , AFMC has the unique distinction of being identified as Sub Sub Recipient of funds from sub recipient INE for disseminating basic information on HIV / AIDS, ART to nurses for providing comprehensive care to HIV positive patients. Approval of the DGAFMS has been obtained for conducting the project at CON and Lt Col Punita A Sharma is detailed as Project Co-coordinator. Six faculty from this college have also been trained as trainers for this course. Till date 864 civil nurses from all over Maharashtra and 40 MNS officers from Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa have been trained in 30 batches.


TRAINING


The faculty of the College is actively involved in classroom and clinical teaching in their area of specialization for all the courses run by the College. The faculty are postgraduate nurses in various specialties and they have undergone their training at premier colleges of nursing in India: CMC Vellore, PGIMER Chandigarh, RAK College of Nursing New Delhi & SNDT Mumbai. Faculty members from various departments of AFMC also actively participate in the training of the cadets. External lecturers are engaged on part time basis for teaching subjects like Sociology, Computer Education, Hindi, English, Research, Statistics and Education.  Command Hospital (Southern Command) Pune is the main clinical field where the students are placed for clinical experience. Besides, following hospitals in Pune complex are also utilized for the training of students.

1.   Military Hospital   (Cardio Thoracic Centre), Pune (for Cardio Thoracic Nursing experience)

2.   Military Hospital, Kirkee, Pune for (Orthopedic Nursing experience)


The students during the training period are sent for Community Health Nursing experience in the Urban Community at Sholapur bazaar and Rural Community experience at Phursungi village. Various educational visits are also planned to various institutes research centers and voluntary organizations as per curriculum requirement to aid the students to develop indepth knowledge of their subjects and a deeper appreciation of the work being done by other organizations.
